Weight Management Tips

Losing weight and keeping it off can be difficult for a lot of people. With misleading information and fad diets on the rise it can make weight loss an even more difficult journey. Here are a few tips to help manage weight.

1. Exercise

Walking at least 30 minutes a day. A simple walk outside or on a treadmill while watching your favorite show to help time pass by can be beneficial to your health.

2. Intermittent Fasting

There are several ways to intermittently fast. Two common methods are 12:12 or 16:8 meaning you fast for 12 or 16 hours and have an eating window of 12 or 8 hours. It is important to remember when fasting, breaking your fast with a high-quality protein and healthy fat is beneficial. Getting plenty of nutritious foods during your eating window will help with weight loss.

3. Drink Water

Staying hydrated is overall good for your health. Drinking water helps to keep you energized and feeling full. Sometimes dehydration can send off hunger cues and make us mindlessly eat unnecessary foods and calories.

4. Reduce Screen Time

Getting outside as much as possible to soak in fresh air and vitamin D is beneficial for many reasons. Sleep quality, mood, and mental clarity are just some of the examples. Having dinner away from phones and TVs helps to avoid mindlessness and overeating.

5. Sleep

Good quality sleep is crucial for maintaining a healthy body. Getting enough sleep allows the body to rest and regenerate. Without enough sleep our body produces an increase in ghrelin and decreases leptin which causes overeating.

6. Progress, Not Perfection

Take it one day at a time. It can be an overwhelming process to lose weight. Everyone must start somewhere. Allow yourself to take it one day at a time. Make a long-term goal to reach, but make sure you aren’t making it unrealistic and overwhelming. If you hit a small goal like drinking your water goal for the day, celebrate it. Be proud of each step and goal you reach.
